Great Pyrenees are used to guard their flock and to herd them. They are very gentle with children. Often called the gentle giants. Young children can sit on them and pull their ears and the Great Pyrenees will never mind. As patient and slow as he seems, When inspired can move quite quickly, covering alot of territory.
Great Pyrenees were breed to cover lots of terrain, and will protect 200 acres easily, making it his perimeter. The females tend to stay closer inward, toward the herd or home. The male and females are very large and equally as capable.
The males, as in all breeds are larger, but my female and her female pups have tighter jowls, causing less drool. Yes males drool, quite a bit...Great Pyrenees can lay with the sheep or goats and blend in perfectly, startling the unexpected intruder, whether it be coyote or wolf, approaching the sheep. The Great Pyrenees usually, only but stand and bark, showing his great size to scare the intruder.
If he starts running, he won't stop until the problem has been solved. They are not known to be killers of small defensely animals, usually if he brings you a dead bunny, it's because he found it and wants you to fix it.
